Zeppelin Airship Makes Historic Return to L.A. Skies Memorial Day Weekend

Country's Only Passenger Airship Operation to Offer Public Flights

MOFFETT FIELD, CA- For the first time since the Golden Age of airship travel more than 70 years ago, Los Angeles will be hosting a giant Zeppelin airship. The last Zeppelin to visit the City of Angels was the Graf Zeppelin that moored at Mines Field (now LAX) on its record-breaking round-the-world trip in August 1929.

The Airship Ventures' Zeppelin Eureka will land at Long Beach Airport Wednesday, May 20th in the evening and be available for the press THURSDAY, MAY 21st. It will then offer spectacular "flightseeing" experiences for the public FRIDAY, May 22nd THROUGH MONDAY, MAY 25TH, heading home to the SF Bay Area after Memorial Day. A graceful and spectacular craft, Eureka is the largest airship in the world, at 246 feet in length, which is 15 feet longer than a Boeing 747, and dwarfs the largest blimp currently flying by more than 50 feet.

The airship's trip to Long Beach marks its FIRST passenger operation in the Los Angeles area.

One and two hour passenger flights will be offered Friday, May 22nd through Monday, May 25th. The airship will be departing from the FBO AirFlite terminal at 3250 Airflite Way, Long Beach, CA 90807. (800) 241-3548 or (562) 490-6200 for more information. NOTE: THIS IS NEAR THE LONG BEACH AIRPORT, BUT NOT THE SAME ADDRESS.

Flights from Long Beach Airport will showcase an aerial view of the fantastic California coastline, the famous Queen Mary, spectacular sights of the Pacific Coast over Palos Verdes, Huntington Beach and as far north as Santa Monica. We will also offer evening flights over Los Angeles.

Traveling at around 1,000 feet above the ground, each Zeppelin flight offers a serene, scenic flight experience unlike any other. Passengers are treated to a bird's eye view of famous landmarks, and the opportunity to walk around the cabin, and take pictures of spectacular 360 degree views. The Zeppelin's spacious cabin comfortably accommodates one pilot, one flight attendant, and 12 passengers with luxury features including oversized panoramic windows, an onboard restroom with window, and a 180-degree rear observation window and "love seat" that wraps the entire aft of the cabin.

One of only three Zeppelins in the world, Eureka is permanently based in the San Francisco Bay Area, where Airship Ventures operates the only airship passenger flight service in North America. Since October 2008, the company has offered scenic "flightseeing" tours from Moffett Field in Mountain View, Oakland International Airport, and on a rotational basis, Monterey Peninsula Airport. Itineraries showcase San Francisco, Silicon Valley, and the Bay Area coastline.

Ticket prices vary based on itinerary, duration and special promotions starting at $375 plus taxes per person. Group, corporate and special charter packages are also available. All flights will be conducted as weather permits.

A marvel of modern airship design, the Zeppelin NT ("New Technology") was manufactured in Germany by Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik GmbH. Powerful engines, state-of-the-art avionics, and fly-by-wire flight controls enable the airship to perform maneuvers similar to those performed by helicopters, including vertical takeoffs and landings. The Zeppelin NT uses non-flammable helium, features a tear-proof outer envelope, and has an unmatched global safety record -- carrying more than 80,000 passengers since August 2001 without a single incident.

LiveAirShowTV brings the Barksdale Air Show to the world via Internet Broadcast!

APRIL 14, 2009 – PFLUGERVILLE TX - LiveAirShowTV announces its first Internet Broadcast of an air show for the 2009 season. The Barksdale Air Force Base - Defenders of Liberty air show, in Shreveport, LA, will be broadcast live over the Internet on May 9th and 10th. “This is a new beginning in bringing the top air shows to people around the world,” said LiveAirShowTV founder and president, Jeff Lee. “We’re pleased to bring this technology which proved successful at the 2007 Nellis AFB air show to other shows around the country.”

LiveAirShowTV will work in conjunction with the base Public Affairs personnel, and other local television professionals to make this happen. The support from the Barksdale Military Affairs Council has played a key role in making all of this possible.

As air shows continue to thrill and amaze audiences around the country, it’s only natural that technology is integrated to enhance that experience, and bring it to those who can’t be on the ramp. “There’s nothing like being on the ramp at an air show, but if that’s just impossible, it’s my job as a director to be the viewers’ eyes and ears for the event” said Lee. “Anybody can stick a camera out and follow the action, but knowing what’s coming next makes all the difference. Good, entertaining production is just as important as how the signal is broadcast. At the end of the day I want our viewers to feel like they’ve actually been to the show. They’ll just miss the great air show food, and getting the t-shirt.”

Sam’s Town Shreveport, a Boyd Gaming property, has stepped up as the presenting sponsor for the broadcast. Jeff has worked with Boyd Gaming for several years on the Las Vegas show. “They’re a huge supporter of aviation and the air show industry, and we’re glad they’re on board with us for the Barksdale show”, said Lee.

The other key team members for the broadcast include Synapse Multimedia for the Internet streaming, and Bluebird Wireless for transmission off the base.

This year’s Defenders of Liberty air show is very unique in that military demo teams from three different countries will be featured. The U.S. Navy Blue Angels will fly again this year, along with ‘Fat Albert’ their C-130 support aircraft. The five-member Chilean air force team will be awing the crowds as they fly their Extra 300’s and crowd favorite; the nine-member Canadian Snowbirds will join the show with their beautifully choreographed formations. These teams will be joined by Greg Poe, Shockwave Jet Truck, Air Force Reserve's Ed Hamill, E Team Skydivers, and Vintage War Birds.
This promises to be a very diverse and entertaining air show for thousands of air show fans.
